Hostel of BJMC

BJ Medical college has separate hostels for boys and girls. It also has new P.G. Hostel, Nursing hostel, Physiotherapy hostel and a dental hostel. Each hostel has a separate building. For under-graduates of M.B.B.S. stream, there are three blocks, A block, B block & C block. Of the three, A & B blocks are for Boys undergraduate & C block is for girls undergraduates. Although hospital administrative allocates blocks randomly and on merit basis, there is always demand that A block is for those from Saurashtra region and from Surat(Varachha area) and for those who took admission through AIPMT. And B block is for those from north Gujarat & Surat(other than Varachha area) students. There is not such division for C block. The situation is that all saurashtra side students & PMT eds live in A block always and rest of the other in B block however block they were allotted. This is happening since many years and often there are quarrels between the two blocks. The history is full of rage, revenge and ruthlessness between the two blocks' students showing hatred among them and that had kept them divided for so many years. Seniors trained their juniors to dominate against rivals and that had created leaders by self arisal who were low profile. Ragging was at the peak in those times. But years passed and now it seems the old divide is at the bay and students showing no more interest in fighting each other. Administrative actions are also being taken. Ragging is strictly prohibited now and a committee has been made to observe and take action. As now any student can complaint of ragging to the dean, the committee takes action against the alleged person, so the students are more secured than previously against ragging. Although some false complaint s may also occur. There's notice board showing whom to complaint in case of ragging like activity occurs, so parents of new comer have breath of relief. Although the seniors sometimes take brain storming session of juniors which is known popularly as " intro" (short of introduction) , it doesn't cause hurt like in ragging. In the past, students of first year M.B.B.S. were being allocated to D block, which has now been abolished for new construction, so the first year students have been temporarily given accommodation in some nearby building rooms. The conditions of the rooms are okay. Food is served by different messes run by students only in both A & B blocks. New students can get to be member by their personal relation with some senior in mess or at the end of year in the mess of the city which he belongs if vacancy occurs. That too depends on seniors who run the mess. The canteen of A block is run by Ravibhai , Karnataka based old man, who is serving for many years has created good rappo among students who remembers so many students by name, city & branch. There is LED TV purchased by students only for recreation in both blocks. Water filter s are there in each lobby but most of the time most of them aren't working. Do you think of any more from toilets and latrines from a government institute? Parking space is sufficient to accommodate two and for wheelers, however many has to park beyond road on front gate. Space for garden is there, but with zero maintenance. There is small room for laundry service in each block. The block s have extension and main lobbies. The rooms of main lobbies are larger than those in extension lobbies. There are two reading halls made by students themselves on each floor. There was also table for table tennis playing on terrace room if it is still there!!!!
